Functional Abnormalities of the Esophagus
Strictures |
|
Strictures form from the effects of repeated bouts of esophagitis with ulceration and then subsequent fibrosis during the healing phase. This can produce narrowing of the lumen down to a few millimetres in diameter. These strictures typically present as smooth annular narrowings without evidence of shouldering and are usually sited in the distal esophagus. |
