Esophagoscopy

In rare instances when the combined use of plain films and contrast esophagography fails to demonstrate an esophageal foreign body or perforation and the patient remains symptomatic, esophagoscopy should be performed (3,5). It should be noted that computed tomography without contrast media has been demonstrated to be the most sensitive method for identifying retained chicken and fish bones in the pharynx and cervical esophagus (24).
