Causes (of multiple or abnormally-located ulcers)

Ulcer seen in histocytic lymphoma

  •           Cavitary mass
  •           Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma
  •           GIST (leiomyoma, leiomyosarcoma)
  •           Metastatic melanoma (less commonly breast, lung)
  •           Carcinoid
  •           Adenocarcinoma
  •           Kaposi’s sarcoma

 

  •           Inflammatory disease
  •           Crohn disease
  •           Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
  •           Sprue

 

  •           Infection
  •           TB – ileocecal area
  •           CMV- ileal (associated with perforation)
  •           Salmonella
  •           Yersinia
  •           Campylobacter
  •           Strogyloides
  •           Anisakis (roundworm)

 

  •           Behcet’s Disease
  •           Rare systemic vasculitis with ulcerations in mouth, genitalia, eyes, GI tract
  •           Ileal ulcers may be aphthoid or linear

 

  •           Radiation

 

  •           Drug-induced
  •           Potassium chloride tablets
