Biliary Atresia - Introduction

Congenital obstruction of biliary system, intrahepatic bile duct proliferation
and focal/total absence of the extrahepatic bile ducts
Complication: Cirrhosis (early onset) and Jaundice
Associations: abdominal heterotaxia syndromes, polysplenia, trisomy

Treatment: surgery before three months of age, Kasai Portoenterostomy
