Monteggia Fracture
- Fracture of the ulna with accompanying radial head dislocation.
- May result from a direct blow to the posterior ulna or a fall accompanied with forced
pronation of the forearm.
- Most commonly, physical exam reveals radial head displacement into the antecubital fossa
with elbow pain and tenderness.
- One way to remember the difference between Galeazzi and Monteggia fractures is the mnemonic GRUM:
Galeazzi Radius, Ulna Monteggia.
