Lumbar Spine Anatomy

The following radiographs show normal lumbar spine anatomy.

Progressing caudally, the vertebral bodies increase in stature. The disc spaces also increase in size until L5-S1, which is often smaller than L4-L5. Like the thoracic spine, the vertebral bodies should have smooth alignment and continuous sclerotic margins.
