General Considerations for the Knee

  • Knee injuries are common due to the large size and complexity of the knee.
  • Most commonly injured are the soft tissue and cartilaginous structures, including ligaments and menisci. These injuries are best evaluated clinically or by MRI.
  • Fractures are the next most common injury, occurring much more often than dislocations.
