Diffuse Hepatic Disease

Wilson's disease

  1. Pathogenesis:
  • May cause enlarged liver without focal disease. Inflammation can progress to cirrhosis.

  • Is a hereditary disease of copper metabolism. Copper deposits in the liver, the cornea, and the brain (especially the lenticular nucleus).
  1. Radiographic findings:
  • CT: liver is hyperdense. CT findings appear identical to those of hemochromatosis.

  • MRI: an increase in signal on T1-weighted images with a decrease on T2-weighted images.
