- Pathogenesis:
- Common in 3rd world.
- Transmitted by fecal-oral route.
- The organism, Entamoeba histolytica,
first infects the colon, then gains access to the liver via portal venous
system.
- Radiographic findings:
- U/S & CT: indistinguishable from
bacterial abscess. Tends to be peripheral in location.
- U/S guided Aspiration: the classic
"anchovy paste" appearing material when aspirated.
