Acute Radiation Enteritis

Acute radiation enteritis usually causes crampy abdominal pain and diarrhea during radiation therapy. It usually resolves within weeks after radiation therapy and is thus rarely imaged. It manifests on imaging studies as smooth, regular fold thickening, as a result of bowel wall edema.
