Hyperplastic Polyps

Also known as an inflammatory polyp, the hyperplastic form constitutes 75-90% of gastric polyps. Hyperplastic polyps are histologically characterized by dilated glands lined by gastric epithelium with mixed acute and chronic inflammatory infiltrates. They are typically multiple in number and may be located anywhere in the stomach. Hyperplastic polyps have no malignant potential.

Radiographic Findings:

• Shape: Sessile or pedunculated. �Mexican hat sign� represents the stalk seen overlying the head of polyp

• Size: Usually < 2cm in diameter

• Surface: Sharply marginated polyp with smooth circular border

• Location: Variable

• Often multiple
