Peroral Pneumocolon

This is a useful adjunctive procedure to
evaluate the ileocecal region at the conclusion of any antegrade small bowel
study—SBFT or enteroclysis.
|
|
Indications
|
- When the terminal ileum is poorly
visualized
- When inflammatory disease of the bowel is
strongly suspected clinically but routine compression spot films of the
terminal ileum appear normal
- When the terminal ileum appears abnormal
on routine compression spot films but additional detail is need to make a
specific diagnosis
- For detailed assessment of an ileocolic anastomosis
- To lift matted or compressed loops of
ileum out of the pelvis and separate them for better evaluation
